Joel Koontz

Licensed Professional Counselor

Most people begin counseling because something in life no longer feels sustainable, and they long for meaningful change. While the process of change is often deeply personal—and at times mysterious—there are conditions that help it unfold. Joel Koontz’s counseling approach is grounded in curiosity, helping clients explore their experiences with honesty, self-compassion, and openness rather than judgment. His work is primarily informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), supporting clients in developing greater psychological flexibility and building lives that reflect their deepest values.

Joel frequently integrates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and “parts-work” when difficult or adverse experiences continue to leave clients feeling stuck. He completed a specialization in complex trauma through Richmont Graduate University, where he earned his master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Joel enjoys working with adults and couples. He currently serves full-time as a Licensed Professional Counselor with a local nonprofit, partnering with individuals experiencing significant life challenges while supporting holistic, lasting change.
